Is Heber tap water safe to drink?

The short answer, and the longer one worth knowing.

Municipal water in the Heber Valley is treated to meet drinking-water standards. "Safe" and "great to drink," though, are two different bars. Two things define our local water: it is very hard, and it is chlorinated.

Hardness: 15 to 25+ grains

Heber Valley water carries some of the highest mineral hardness in Utah, commonly 15 to 25 grains per gallon and up. You taste it, your skin feels it after a shower, and your water heater and fixtures pay for it in scale.

Chlorine and byproducts

Chlorine keeps the supply safe on the way to your home, but most people would rather not drink or shower in it. Filtration removes the chlorine taste and the byproducts that come with treated water.

What helps

For drinking, an under-sink or countertop ionizer gives you clean, mineral-balanced water on demand. For the whole house, a whole-home system protects every tap and tackles the hardness without adding sodium.
